ok so my mom recently gave me her old car, a 1995 mercury cougar 4.6 v8.
she bought a newer car quite some time ago and said l could have this car when l got my license so it has been sitting for like 8 months.
well last weekend l got a new battery, fuel addative, injector cleaners(liquid), and changed the oil.
so l put it all in and crank it up starts right
woot surprise there.
and l put it in drive and revved the engine it just sat for a second then it cought the gear and did a little reet with the tires.
i have been driving it around the street every day for the past week and it still does it.
but if im driving along and let off the gas then get back on it it dosent have a delay like when im not moving.
what could cause the delay and could it be bad for the tranny?
oh yeah its an automatic.
thanks

1 busted tranny coming up!!!! All trannys are automatic, manuals are gearboxes.

Sounds like the clutchs are wearing out. A trans shop may be able to help by tightening the bands. This may hold you for a little while. Take it easy with it until it is been adjusted. You loose first gear and the tranny needs a complete rebuild.

if the trans operated properly before sitting for 6 months then the seals in the transmission could have gotten hard. also if the transmission fluid has not been serviced with in the last 30 thousand miles take it to a transmission repair shop and have them look at it and have the transmission service. this may help with your problem.

If your car was ok before parking it for those 8 months,it can not be all that much wrong with it.All automatic transmission have a vent hole in the top of them. Most likely dust went into the tranny through the vent hole.Changing the fluid & filter sure would be a +.,but if you want a quick fix O'Reilly is auto parts has a product called (Sea -Foam ) for transmissions it really works well.
