My friend recently bought one, he has had no problems with it, they are a good car that does ok on gas with no sacrifice for power or acceleration

No.
They are the same thing under the sheet metal as a Contour/Mystique, which were some of the worst cars Ford has ever made.
Run far, far away.

Yeah l own a v6 2.5L its great on gas & easy to modfy, great on the eyes & comftorble drive.
ive seen good reviews, the only probly ive had with mine is the starter went out. bout it.
the V4 gets 34+ mpg if ur looking for a more gas efficiant.
Letting u know the cougar wasnt built for racing speeds as all the complaints about not powerful enough but if u got some time & money u can put some decent power into one my CA l & Dual exhausts added 45HP alone & 3mpg.
