Could it be the throttle position sensor? It has happened 3 times in the last week. No lights have come on to indicate a problem.

no its not the throttle position sensor. its probably the transmission. Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable have a history for having transmission trouble. and when RPM jumps up the clutches are probably slipping
