l have a 1999 Mercury Sable LS, with the Duratech 24V engine. It has 81k miles on it. When l press the gas to take off, it makes a crackling noise in the pedal/dash area. Also sometimes when l press the brake and let go it will make the same crackling noise. Any Suggestions? Thanks

the brake and gas are attached to a heavy gage plate directly above them. Those things have grease on them to keep them from ''squeaking'' when the hinged area moves. Check them with you hand by applying the brake and gas and see if you hear a noise from the actual hinge on the gas and brake.may need just lubrication in those areas.
