my interior lights on 2000 merc. grand marquis will not shut off i had to remove bulbs any ideas

check the hinges on all of your doors. one of the doors might not be shutting completely and that will cause the light to remain on.

Most newer cars have electronic senors built in the doors. Sometime the sensor goes bad or gets wet when you open the door after a heavy rain. l have a Ford Taurus that does the same thing and l have had to take it to have the senor replaced.

This may sound silly, but check the knob for the dash lights. If it is turned to the max brightness, it also turns on the interior lights. It is fairly common for people to not realize it has been turned that far. There should be a slight detent, or bump, when it goes into the interior light position. Move the dial to the left and try putting in a bulb with the doors closed.

Spray each door hinge with penetrating oil, open and close the door about ten times. Do this on each door, you have a switch in the latch that is stuck

it is a door switch however the swiches are built into the latch assembley so lubing the hinges will not fix it, since there are 4 or more switches to consider l suggest you take it to someone who can check the switches with a scanner, like your ford dealer, they can tell you which switch is not working right then you can fix it yourself or let them do it, not the cheapest way to fix it but it will be fixed right

You need a Lighting Control Module.
