My car is having alot of problems, l would like to just get a new one. Somebody told me that the engine is worth more than the car itself, and that l should sell the engine.
Is this true? and how would l go about selling it, and how do you put a price on an engine?

The engine may be more valuble than the car. but getting the engine out & selling it will be way more hastle than selling the car as a ''Parts-Car'' & noting that the engine is prestine.

This transfers the responsibility of taking the engine out altogether & u wont have to worry about any of the complications.

Chances r though, the engine is not worth more than the whole car itself unless the car flooded or something drastic happened to it. Lots of people would love replacement driver is seats, catalytic converters, mufflers, tires, etc on ur car. Best to sell the whole thing.

Or if u r looking for another car - buy a cheap Ford Contour/Merc Cougar again/or Merc Mystique. they all use the same engine.

Sell it with those conditions, engine runs well body needs work or something along those lines. If someone wants it, they know to take it out, they will also salvage anything else they need and they can and send the rest to the scrappers.

All u said is that its having lots of problems. Are they engine related? If so the engine is probably worthless.

At the same time, if u dont know that particular car its very possible u have a single underlying problem that can cure all the others. Especially if its things like door locks, radio, alarm, flickering lights, dash going dead.

As for selling the engine alone-its not really worthwhile since u will then have to do something with a worthless shell.
