if you're in you know, a civic, 240sx, etc. cliche jdm and you get line up at a red light to race a Sable, would you take it seriously?

Most of them have the 3.8l V-6. It is not a race car, but it has some ''git up n go''. If it is the SHO (Ford Taurus, but it looks the same), look out. Those things often came with 5 speeds and a hot little V-6 under the hood. I've driven one before and gran-ma is grocery getter can go!

l am afraid a Sable will get killed by almost anything. Heres how u could compare.
Car 0-60 1/4 Mile time
2000 Mercury Sable LS 8.6 seconds 16.8 seconds
1999 Honda Civic Si 7.5 seconds 15.7 seconds
1995 Nissan 240SX SE 8.0 seconds 15.8 seconds
1993 Geo Storm GSi.lol 8.7 seconds 16.7 seconds

As u can see..even a Geo can come out slightly ahead. And none of these r fast cars. Hope this helps.

anything can be a racecar, tune up that engine & add forced induction or nitrous, but change nothing else, so it just looks like a stock, slow as hell sable. you will have a great sleeper, & a few priceless moments when you see that cliche tuner driver who thinks he is all that get smoked by your ''slow piece of crap'' sable.
i do the same on occasion with my 92 caprice

Versus a stock Civic from the late 90s, l would not be too scared. But really, a Sable is a family best known for its functinonality, ride, and utility not a race car.

Depends on the engine. The 3.0 Vulcans from the early 90 is made 140hp, later years made 155hp. The 3.0 Duratec made 200hp. The 3.8 Essex made 140hp/ 215 tq, and had aluminum cylinder heads. l would not race anyone though; it does not prove anything. I'd rather drive a Sable for it is roominess and comfort.

As Ryan said the 3.0 Duratec had 200hp. Not high, but still not a bad start. Because of the SVT Contour, Jag X Type, and the Merc (or Ford) Cougar there is great aftermarket support for the Duratec engines.

Theyre easy to supercharge and just from that youre above 300hp. A few more mods, throw on some SVT parts and youre doing quite well for less than 10k for parts and installation.
