l am shopping for an suv online and l saw a used 2002 Mercury Mountaineer with 68k miles. l am very interested in the vehicle but l wanna know if it is reliable enough to last me a pretty long time. l have read some owner reviews and it seem as if it is not reliable at all but l just wanna make sure because this is the internet and anyone can post things up.

So, like with all cars, there is going to be a million different stories about how the car has held up. From my personal experience, mine has held up nicely. The only real problem was that the passenger side rear window motor died off about a year ago but l did get that replaced for about $350 so it is all good! Mine has always started up right away & drives like a dream. It has not broke down on the side of the road either. So before u buy it, take it to a mechanic & do a carfax report on it just so u know its history. Good luck!

Like any car, there are always a few lemons out there, but, in general, the Mountaineer should not be any less reliable than its corporate sibling, the Ford Explorer.
