the motor need head gasket, AND already torn down. 134.134miles.seller lost interest. been for sale for months.
and l told him..he need to put the new gasket in and put the heads back on..without the pushrods in place, to the cylinders are protected from low fog/cloud of humidity...he asking $1000.
the body, interior are great, tires are new, black paint got fades, still has it shine, probably offer $500
Question is.
i've work on 60 is v8 motors. never on these motors.supercharged and fuel injection..i assumed it would be that hard, BUT...i wondered..what l am diving into. blindly.only 26xx were made with automatic, 4 wheel disc, rear independent suspension, moonroof, dual power seats, locks, windows, so basically a great project, (SIMPLE)
so looking for experience with these motors, or book? website, ect. will wires be easy to KNOW where this or that goes?

think u will have to talk to other owners that have worked on this rides rather than this posting board.

there r some cougar forums around like here
http://cougarnuts.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28

http://fordmuscle.com/archives/2005/12/CougarXR7/index3.php

(there r others, just search under cougar xr 7 forums), & there seems from a quick scan a group of devoted followers to this car & its brother the supercoupe.

my thoughts:
..body , paint, suspension all good - looks like u r already ahead of the game. do not let fuel injection scare u away.big difference is with a carb u tune ''with a screwdriver'' & frequently, with fuel inj, u tune with a chip, & its more efficient & in the end easier to modify (with a supercharger u may likely need a pro shop to run a custom tune & this better in the end).

as for the forced induction, not sure what its running (low boost paxton or eaton? again there is lots of info on these at the owners forums.and lots of installations of these systems. they r not complicated.

supercharger was a factory installation on this car which means through the rebuild it can actually be enhanced . so being a limited edition factory model, is likely a plus (though l would not be fussy about auto trans)..getting a supercharger installation as part of the build is a real plus (just price out what a supercharger costs). plus its relatively easy to enhance a supercharger (smaller pulleys & for more, porting the supercharger).

key issue with any supercharger is to insure internals can handle the boost (rapid power gain/extreme heat), so before the heads go back on make sure they r adequate for the boost this engine is capable of (and why was the engine torn down in the 1st place).AGAIN owners forum to determine for safe mode supercharger operation have the guys done performance heads/forged internals on this car.

lastly since this was a factory installation-means SHOP / SERVICE REFERENCE MANUAL is available from ford.

i think from a couple of postings/chats with guys that have done this build - before u buy u will have at least a sense of whether or not u will have to spend some money on performance upgrades, & u will have linked with some help lines & get links to specific references. ...looks positve

good luck (04 cobra)

l can not give you advice on the maintenance, but sound like a sweet ride. When all is said and done l think you should go for it, and l know there is a lot of information available for people who want to tackle a project like this. l would not neglect going to the public library for a book on just that model it may be of more assistance to you as well. Good luck!
