You can, is just the matter of finding someone, or someplace that offers them kind of parts for it.

Yes! Go to a speed shop or NAPA auto supply for help.

short answer no, but u have other options - cost effective, stay with me here

there r very limited supercharger/turbo installs for the 2.5v-6, vortech has a bolt on, here
http://sportcompactonly.com/part_p-92094.htm

but as u can see is low boost & for standard transmission only (i have to assume that like a lot of daily drivers ur automatic trans cannot handle extra/sudden power delivery provided by forced induction). cost plus $4000, & if u need a proshop to do the work & the tune, figure all in $6000

get on a performance forum, & discuss it with other owners of the same car.
http://mercuryforum.com/
and here
http://newcougar.org/forums/forced-induction/123672-3-0-2-5-forced-induction-qustion.html

so in considering ur power up options (forced induction either supercharge or turbo charge) u should also consider :transmission/drive line swap (thats needed in any event) & installation of a NITROUS KIT overall will be far cheaper than plus $4000 for forced induction (ZEX makes a nitrous kit for ur car).

if it was my car this would be the option l would pursue.here is an example & with his nitrous shot/engine enhancements he is running approx 40% more hp than stock.

.and if u enhance ur engine is internals (forged/race ready pistons, cam etc) u can increase the boost.

..and lastly whatever option u have to improve breathing (cold air intake & perhaps bigger throttle body & add performance exhaust system).
cheers 04 cobra (whipple with 15lbs boost, 575rwhp)

Both bolt on options are there, but both require the MTX-75. The ATX is an old Mazda economy car transaxle that cant handle much power. Thats the reason youre 170hp V6 is the same speed as the 140hp I4 from the same year.

teamneco.com should be added to the above list. Between them and newcougar.org you can find complete parts lists and walkthroughs with pictures for doing a swap to the MTX-75.
