l am thinking of buying one. The owner is advertising it for 2,100, but l am going to try to get it for about 1,800. Is this a good deal, good car, or should l avoid this car. Keep in mind this is going to be my sons first car.

Check out its blue book value. l started our kids out with used, very used, Volvo wagons.

You should consider the mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. It is also a good idea to take it to a mechanic to have it checked out.

My fiance is mom owns one of these, and l use it occasionally to haul stuff around. l like them. We never really had any problems with hers yet, and it has about 150,000 miles on it.

It is very similar to the ford tauras staion wagon, it is a decent car, but if l were your son l would be happier with something that is not a station wagon.

l agree with the one guy. Used old Volvos (especially the 240) are the way to go for first cars. They are reliable, inexpensive and sylish (most teens hate station wagons, but Volvos are cool because they are different).
The Sable/Taurus was a decent vehicle in its day. But that day has passed.

it is a decent car, try to get price down a couple hundred more.i have heard of transmission problems and oil leaks on taurus and sables.

That will be a good second hand car we built them right along with the Taurus wagons and l really like the sable better , If you keep the maintenance up it will last for a long time

The Mercury Sable in the 1990 is was a pretty reliable car, depending on the engine.

Ford had an issue with the 3.8 litre engines blowing the head gasket and cracking the engine manifold.

The other engine was a 3.0 litre, which was, and still is, extremly reliable. l know 3 people who have Mid-1990 is Taurus and all three of them have over 200,000 miles on them.

Avoid it. They have very weak transmissions & the transmission cost more to rebuild then the car is worth (around $2500+). They r nice to drive but also have problems with the cooling system plugging & l have heard complaints about the steering racks wearing out at an early age. l have owned a 99 Taurus wagon myself but the tranny went in it & also have replace quit a few of those trannys at work. Shell out a few more dollars & buy ur son an older Mustang, he will love u for it & they r a very good car or if ur really on a budget get a Crown Victoria, it gets better mileage then the Taurus & is twice the car for almost the same price.

l am 17 & just bought a 1996 Sable wagon in may. Although the 95 is the year before they changed many aspects of the line, l would imagine that reliability wise they would be much the same. l bought mine for 2,500 with 83,548 miles & no rust or rot of any kind. l even got new breaks out of deal. Just check the mileage & like others have said, maybe have a mechanic of ur choosing look at it. l have enjoyed mine, & have not had one headache since l bought it. Its is a good deal for that car either way, 1,800 is a better deal though :)!!!
