l was wondering if Mercury Mountaineers have aalot of problems because we are looking at buying one and when we went to look at some there was a Ford Expedition (which is basically the same vehicle) that was 2 years older and costs 2 thounsand $ more. Why could this be?

the expedition is a much larger vehicle that is why it cost more ..the ford explorer and mercury mountaineer are based on the same platform and are virtually problem free given routine care.they are also the same as the ford ranger.they are both based on the ranger.

l think u got the Expedition mixed up with the Explorer. The Expedition is a full sized SUV & is much larger. The Explorer is the same thing as the Mountaineer, not the Expedition. The differences r the exterior design of the headlamps & taillights. The Mountaineer is very reliable & almost has no problems if, saying if u do not take it off road a lot or go speeding & making sharp turns like an action movie all the time. l would really suggest one to anybody.

Check out the Mountaineer here: http://mercuryvehicles.com/mountaineer/?s_kwcid=mountaineer|564404700&gclid=COf-yIT6kY4CFSQwYAodkVjg2A

Here r impressive consumer reports from people who own one: http://autos..com/2007_mercury_mountaineer-reviews_user/

As both others said, the Expedition is kin to the lincoln navigator and f-series trucks. you are thinking about the mountaineer and it is Ford kin the Ford Explorer.

both explorer and mountaineer are pretty good vehicles with occasional issues that can be expected on any vehicle that is based on a SUV model.. mostly maintaince is major thing. Early model (02-03s) had issues occasionally with the transmissions on the automatics and v-6s but pretty much cleared up now.

l work at a lincoln mercury dealership and havent seen a whole lot of any problems with mountaineers. No recalls. No serious problems comming into the garage. Its a safe purchase and theyre very very nice vehicles.
