what could be wrong? is it possible my float is stuck? if so can l drop the tank, pull the pump and wiggle the float free ?

If you are able to drop the tank and get the pump out then l would say just replace the float all together so you dont have to do it again later. Personally if l was going through all the trouble of dropping the gas tank just to wiggle a float l would replace the fuel pump all together since you have to pull it out to wiggle the float. Good luck!

The float that is in the tank is stuck you will have to remove it to fix, hope this helps.

the resistor is bad in the float or the gage itself is defective if u can get or have a multimeter the test is straight foreward but no fun. To see the test either get a manual from the auto parts store or u can go to alldata.com ( l go to the library where it is free) & get the test. l would hate to tell u to change the float & find out it was the gauge. Several vehicles floats were damaged by a combination of wrong fuel & the metal used in the float after katrina. good luck PS if u dont want to change the fuel pump while u have the tank down at least change the screen & clean the tank

as someone said, for the trouble to drop it, cheaper to replace the whole sending unit assembly in the tank. Ford sells just the sending unit for that vehicle (comes with float and all)
