Take it out from the bottom do not use a screwdriver, unscrew it with your hands, but be careful not to spill the electolyte, but before you start ensure the engine is not running. good luck.

l just changed one on a 97 Taurus, Make sure you use a good wrench to loosen the big pipe and then the two screws, To replace start the big hose pipe first leave loose and then the 2 screws tighten them and then the big pipe plug vacuum hose and you are don, hope this helps,

If you have codes for insufficient EGR flow or excessive EGR flow, check the DPFE sensor first. These go bad often on the Ford engines, and hardly if ever does an EGR valve need replacing.
