Low sales. They should have built it in the mid 90s when GM still had the LT1 Impala SS. It would have made a great Ford & Chevy battle.

Were u serious? Marauder was what, between 7-8 secs 0-60, SL65 is around 4-5, depending on what publication u read. It is really not fair though to compare a 30k sedan to a over 100k coupe.

Even if u spent thousands upgrading the Marauder, l do not think you'd ever get it near that number.

As for why they do not make it anymore - simple answer, sales. If people do not buy it in great enough numbers to justify it is existence, bye bye. Too bad, it was a pretty cool car if u needed a large car with some attitude.

they did not make nearly enough sales on it because no one buys a full size 4 door to be sporty in really, add to the fact that a honda accord v-6 of the same year was quicker and that does not help your sales. now if it would have had 400 horsepower it probably would have sold a little better, it was just too little too late for mercury.

You can actually still buy a Crown Victoria with the same interior as the Marauder. The problem with Mercury as with Fords, they just did not advertise it & kept pulling back when the release date was. Also the stupid dealers had such a mark up on the car it was out priced the first year. The list was around 30,000 & dealers added an additional 5,000 & that stopped me right there, some where even higher. l bought an 2002 Grand Marquis with center console, floor shift buckets seats dual exhaust, air lever suspension for $24,000 & has the same options the Marauder had except the 300 hp motor, plus its Aspen Green same as the bullit Mustangs. My car was produced for only 6 months & is badged on the side S55 after the 63 Marauder S55. One of a kind & hauls.
