l am getting a Mercury Mystique next week for $850.00. l checked out the car everything seemed perfectly fine and the guy has put some work into the car. He just wants to get rid of it because he inherited a nice new car. Anyone know anything about these cars? Or ever have one?

Sure, they are a Ford Escort with a Mercury nameplate. Same engine, same tranny,etc.
Year of manufacture would help us here in the forum, so ask again.

Yeah My in-laws have one and they love it they drive it every where and right now l know of nothing that has gone bad, Just the usual maintenance he keeps good records, hope this helps you got lucky

l had a 1999 Mystique & it was horrible.

Within a 2 month period, the carbon canisters needed to be replaced, essentially a new front end, new timing belt, & when l got rid of it, it needed a new transmission & new A/C compressor.
The worst part was when u went up a hill, u could not push the accelerator down too far or else it would stop accelerating.
Also, l had a lot of issues with the lighting system shorting out.
l work for Ford, so l can not really bad mouth their vehicles, but it was the worst vehicle I've ever had.
