Im looking for my car right now since im getting my D.L in 20 days and l have found a 1999 Cougar for $4000 with only 100,000 on it and there is nothing wrong with the car. Is it a good starter car?

Yea. they are actually pretty good cars. My 1st car, and the one l drive now is a 1988 Mercury Cougar, lol.

ur best bet in buying a used car is to first check out consumers report magazine at the library. they have an annual car issue. they list the best & worst used cars. find the ones they suggest in ur price range then go to autotrader.com & start shopping. be aware that around 100k miles cars need new timing belts & waterpumps. that can run u aroudn 400 bucks. l am not aware of the reliability of a merc. cougar so l cannot comment on that car. personally for that price range l would look at nissan altima's. good luck.

Its a great car if you are willing to take care of it.
You will run into some small problems, but rarely does it have major issues.

l bought one 6 years ago l love love love love it. l needed ball joints at about 100,000 . but no other major problems- also needed struts about that time too.(what car doesn't.)

yes, they are great starter cars. they have very good reliability and quality, and look sporty.
