Hte car is a 2dr. 6cyl. automatic, 1962 mercury comet. it has buket seats, a chrome center console and looks from the pics. to be in pretty good condition. l dont know anything about the mechanical aspect of cars and was wondering what l should look for when l take it for a test drive?? what should l pay special attention to? thanks for your help, hope to hear from somebody soon!!

this car has vacume wipers, the fuel pump had a vacume pump made on to it the extra load would wear the pump lobe off of the camshaft on high mileage engines , the vacume motor that runs the wipers had ''soft'' rubber seals & valves that have probably shrunk hardend or broken rendering them useless. while the parts to rebuild these systems r no longer readily available they do still exist. remember that when raining or going up-hill, if u pass , it is at ur own risk as well as risk to the others around you

my dad had this car when l was just a 3 yr old so l asked him about it. he said it was the biggest piece o $hit he ever owned.It was the first comet ford made an there were alot of problems with them,it never wanted to start on rainy days the wipers never worked right,and the windows leaked all the way around & this was a new car back then,and was bought new when my parents were married,(they traded a 57 belair for it aaarrrgghhh)said he drove it for 2 years & had to scrap it cuz the frame rusted at the front of the doors & he didnt want to put any more money in it. l can almost remember the car & riding in it because it was winter & dad went around a turn & went into a ditch,it scared me because it spun around & thats the only memory l have of it.They took pics of it thou,It was black with a red interior,bench seats,automatic on the column & he thinks it was a 200ci 6 cyl.Looked like a nice car but he doesnt think so

Rust. Everything else can be easily fixed.

do not be afraid to crawl under it and check for rust holes, it is a major problem and expense. also open up the trunk and check for holes and repairs. blowby out the engine breather means bad rings, noisy rearend and transmission, rusty water in radiator. it will probably have most of these things
