The fuel pump on my 1985 Mercury Marquis Station Wagon - V6, 3.8L - does not charge when l go to start the vehicle. l do not have the owner is manual - if someone knows where this switch or fuse or what-not is, l would be grateful if you could share the info. Thanks!

If l am not mistaken, that particular model was carbureted, not fuel injected. If that is the case, there is no inertia switch on this vehicle. What do you mean by, ''it does not charge'' when you go to start the vehicle? Do you mean the starter does not crank the engine, or the charging system is not charging the battery when the vehicle starts? Need more information.

Nick the relay will be in a black plastic covered box the bottom inside of box cover will let u know which one is the fuel pump relay.
However on Fors & Mercurys including the wagons there is another thing that can cause u cute problems with intermittent working fuel pumps.
its called an ''Inertia Switch'' it was meant to be an emergency fail safe device which shuts down the fuel pump in case of an accident to prevent vehicles from catching fire.
a very light impact to a bumber even has been known to trip these occassionally (light meaning 3-5 MPH impact like a parking lot thump from an inattentive drivers vehicle).
in fact some times it can even only partially trip at place where car got bumped & later when car his a bump going down road finsh tripping off..
on ur wagon this should be foun in the right passenger side rear panel near the spare tire well. just to the right of it is a smaller well with a fiber boar cover. under it is this switch it has a red button about the size of ur pinkie finger. push it down if it clicks & moves that was the problem

PS Rakel its nice to know my first hand experieince as an ASE Certified Auto Tech & be actually aware that the car l drove was identically equipped as described including model year..FY l this was actually my ex-fiancees mothers car
