Is there anything l should know, models to avoid or parts that are hard to replace.l would like to buy a project car and work on it over time to save the money required to buy a pristine Cougar.l know the basics Eliminator and Gurney models are desirable, but XR-7 is are ok.What else should l know?
Edit: l meant 1968-1970

If you do not mind shipping charges you might find one on ebay motors. You can also check places like craigslist.org or other classifieds for something local.

'68 - '96?? That is a rather wide spread, do not u think?

A few things to consider:

Early year Cougars tend to bring in less money than similar year Mustangs due to demand, even though u r paying the same price or more to restore/rebuild.

The control box for sequential turn signals (on the rear) of early 70s Cats can be expensive to replace if it does not work.

The 1971 Cat could have a 351 Windsor or a 351 Cleveland engine. The Cleveland tends to be more desirable. These have ''quench chamber'' heads & r preferred over later year Cleveland heads.

Retractable headlights on early models r pretty cool.

Convertibles r usually worth more than coupes.
