l have a 93 Mercury Grand Marquis, It will not come out of park and go into gear , but it starts and the wheels turn and everything, it just wo not come out of Park ? whats wrong with it and is it fairly easy to have fixed?

It may work for ur car, if that does not work, it could be that ur transmission could be shot, u may have to get a flywheel replaced, or u may have to get a whole new transmission dropped in, which means that u could look for a used one any where between 300 to 1500 dollars,plus install labour. unless u know some one with the equip, know how & time to put it in for you.

Have someone stand behind the car, l bet u do not have any brake lights due to a switch or wiring concern at the brake switch. A way to get it into gear is to put the key in,turn it to the first position only (nothing should come on) pull the gear shift into neutral, Make sure ur foot is still on the brakes, start the car, then u can go into reverse or drive, but if u put it into park, u will have to do it again, u can run with the hazard lights on to go get the problem fixed, but it will save u a tow bill. Or u can have a trusted friend follow u to get it fixed.

My father used to own a 96 Grand Marquis and anytime a brake light went out or a fuse got blown the damn thing would not leave park. My suggestion check the fuses first and then check to see if you have any lights out. That should fix it. Stupid safety features.
