I have a transaxle warning light. A diagnostic on my 2000 cougar said NTT malfunction. What is that?

This issue is causing overdrive to go off and gives it shift shock and hard shifting in lower gears. No slippage of tranny. It has fluid.

''NTT'' may be the error code assigned to this problem. You may find it if you can find a book listing all the error codes, or you may have to take it to the dealer or a repair shop.

Transmission work is not cheap - major repairs can run well into 4 figures. It is usually cheaper to catch it early and fix it before it turns into something major.

Off to the Ford garage with you, l think.

well, l dont really know what the NTT malfunction is but, you might just need to replace the tranny filter. my explorer was doing similar stuff, and l replaced it and it was fine.

Head over to newcougar.org and teamneco.com

There you will find any answer you would ever want to know about these cars. There are a few Ford mechanics over there who will help you out if no one else can, but more than likely most of the people there will be able to tell you the problem immediately.
