The ''plug'' was lying in the pan and does not seem to belong anywhere else...we asked several people about it and noone seems to know what it is. Can anyone help me????

It is a magnet that is there to capture metallic debris from normal clutch wear and prevent this stuff from circulating through your transmission and wearing it out prematurely. Clean it when you do your fluid changes.

This is a small yellow plug with an oring on it. This is used to plug the hole that the dipstick tube goes in . Ford prefills their transmissions with fluid this plug is pushed into the hole when the transmission is installed at the factory or when a Ford reman is installed. It is only purpose is to hold the fluid in . You can throw it away.

It is a plug for the dipstick, when they put the dipstick in the transmission, it forces the plug into the oil pan.
