l own a 2002 Mountaineer.
Be sure to get the new V8 (borrowed from the new Mustang) and the 6-sp transmission. Be sure the A/C works. Mine has never worked right; at a stoplight or while idling it starts blowing warm air. Other than the A/C it is a great car, never let me down.

Good Lord; where do l begin?
Transmission problems since day one or mile 41.. yes, 41 miles & my transmission failed. Recalled & fixed. Broke again at 1500 miles. Fixed. Broke again at 4100 miles. Fixed. Broke again at 10500 miles. Replaced entire transmission.. working fine now.
If u dont know about Fords, their transmissions r horrible!
Other than that, it a nice stylish SUV that will continue to turn heads for years to come

l have a 2003 and l love it! Have not had any problems. No matter what make of car you get there are always people out there who have had bad experiences and those are the ones who tend to speak out, so l would take their advice with a grain of salt.

l am selling a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, are you interested? I've noticed that you buy a new car for several, several $1,000 of dollars and when you try to sell you get next to nothing, l would advise you to buy a used car (honestly). you will probably understand what l am saying after you buy it and a couple of payments ahead regret it. Good luck with your buy.
