That is the worst viehicle that mercury EVER made. They all fall apart. In the shop we call them Mercury Mistakes.

Had one for quite awhile. No problems. We've all heard the mistake name thing. How many miles are on your car?

Mercury MISTAKE!!!! l bought mine in 1996, it stalled out on me constantly from the summer of 1997. l was involved in a rear end collision- l was not in the car at the time- because of the stalling, which resulted in $1200 worth of damage to the rear bumper. l tried to contact Ford about this problem, but to no avail. January 2000- Good bye MISTAKE, Hello Subaru!!

We leased fleets of them to various companies. l do not think they were ALL bad, we just heard about more problems because of the volume we were dealing with.

The Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique (same car) seemed like a good idea in theory as the Tempo/Topaz really DID need a replacement. The Contours & Mystiques seemed to have more than their fair share of transmission & brake (especially rotors) problems.

Still, u need to expect a few mechanical repairs on any 10-year-old vehicle.
