l have owned the car for 4 years, this has happened twice in the last 2 months. It has EFI, a good battery, l think, appears to be getting fuel when trying to start it in the rain, after being parked. Does not happen any other time.

moisture in the distributor cap. probably cracked get a new one.

Take it for a complete tune up, ask to have the spark plugs changed. Should run better after that.

l have a '91 Mercury Grand Marquis also. l had the same problem. It needed a new distributor cap. Betcha that will help yours too. Good luck.

l am not a gear head. but my parents owned the same thing and the car went to shit. l had a gas problem, where it would smell like gas when we went around a corner to fast or if the tank was to full. It did the same thing in the rain a couple of times to us too. We eventually got rid of that car. We took it to a bunch of different mechanics. Yet none of them could find or fix the problems.

You can try spraying the distributer cap and wires with a silicone spray. If this starts you up, replace the cap, rotor, and wires!

9 times out of ten in this. your distributor cap has water or moister in it either the seal is bad or the cap is cracked.

The distributor is the obvious but now a days a little moisture does not stop cars from starting because the spark is a lot stronger then the old days. Pull the coil wire and see the spark go across it will start without even being plugged in. If no spark then you have a electronic component that is bad like a computer module or something a long those lines.

Cap rotor plugs and wires. Should help out.
